NYT: 4-Day Workweek Proposed to Ease New York’s Deficit
From the New York Times:
“A Queens assemblyman has proposed a four-day workweek for some state employees to help offset the $15 billion budget deficit faced by New York in 2009.”
This is not a reduction in working time. The work day is shifted so 40 hours is produced in four days instead of five. So, the net saving are only $30 million out of a budget a shortfall of $15 billion.
State governments have no yet begun to consider the idea of reductions INSTEAD of spending, but it is a step in the right direction, perhaps.
