Please write CBS News and ask the candidates to reduce hours of work to address this crisis…

An email from a correspondent of the Shorter Working Time email list:

One of you posted a good question about reducing the hours of work that you sent to  ftn@cbsnews.com as a proposed question for the presidential debate.  I sent another worded differently.  I think it would be good if everyone on the list who can, would send something in in their own words, AND copy it to the Obama campaign, by whatever route you have.

Here is her email which has been sent both to CBS and the Obama campaign:

As we’ve learned from previous economic crises, the only way out   is also the only way finally to ensure that advances in human productivity serve everyone  rather than a few while more and more are unemployed, underemployed, hustling dehumanizingly, or in jail; and this has been winning the 10 hour day, then the 8 hour day.   Are you in favor of finding a way to reduce the standard hours of work required for standard benefits and a liveable wage?

We completely support such efforts and request all readers to send email to all of their elected representatives to ask for a reduction in hours of work to address what will become an increasingly difficult unemployment situation.

If you are union members, please also, convey to your labor union representatives how urgent it is for them to get behind this effort as well.
